Afton Tornado Rated EF-1

The tornado that occurred around 10 pm on April 2 near the Afton area has been rated an EF-1 from the National Weather Service Office in Tulsa. The maximum winds are estimated to be 100 to 110 mph. The tornado was on the ground for 20 minutes. It went a total of 12.3 miles. One person was injured during the tornado but thankfully no one died.

The National Weather service is still working to try to confirm if there was any more tornadoes on April 2nd. As of right now, the total number of tornadoes in Oklahoma has risen to 5. All of those tornadoes have occurred in the past 3 weeks.

The past few events have brought some significant hail to the area. Greg Cabin, Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the Storm Prediction Center, put together a well displayed chart comparing hail events in March from the past few years:

Pretty interesting in my opinion. Looking ahead into this week, there is good potential we could see more severe weather. Don't let your guard down!
